Ecological Role

Observation Tips

Keep out of reach of pets and children, as it contains calcium oxalate crystals which are toxic if ingested. Look for them in water gardens or tropical borders.

Interesting Facts

The dark color is due to high concentrations of anthocyanins, which protect the plant from intense tropical sunlight. Though it is a cultivar of Taro, all parts must be properly cooked to be edible.
